Faux 101
Faux Finishing is an art form in which the artist creates painted
illusions on wall, ceiling and furniture surfaces. By layering the paint, glaze
and texture applications and using various tools and techniques, the artist can
achieve a wide variety of special effects.
Faux finishing has recently gained worldwide appeal through home decorating
television shows, but this centuries-old art form is no fad. Ancient Mycenaeans
and Egyptians "marbled" their pottery, and visitors to the ruins of
Pompeii and Herculaneum can witness examples of faux finishing at its finest.
Furthermore, the art form rapidly gained favor during the Renaissance era among
those who desired, but could not afford, the luxurious look and feel of marbles
and woods found in palaces and churches.
The following are the advantages of a faux finish:
- Decorative Finishes become more beautiful with age.
- No repeat patterns or seams.
- They can be applied to virtually any surface, including plaster, drywall,
wood, metal, leather, glass, ceramic or PVC.
- Longer lasting than wallpaper and they will not peel off under adverse environmental
situations such as high humidity.
- They will not harbor bacteria, mold, and bugs beneath the surface like wallpaper.
- Extremely washable and durable, feel free to try this on our samples.
- Make a small area appear larger, by using light colors and a soft faux technique.
- Make a large area appear smaller by using dark colors with a dramatic technique.
- They can be customized to an existing color scheme.
- Textured finishes can hide wall surface flaws.
- Our Italian Plasters are the real thing, applied with a proven technique that
has been used for thousands of years.
